OSTRICH EGG SHELL HEISHE: These are fine hand-cut ostrich egg shell heishe from Africa. The use of ostrich egg shell to make these heishe small discs is an African tradition dating back to thousands of years. These heishe date to mid to late 20th century and were collected in Africa.

KROBO GLASS BEADS: These gorgeous “coke bottle” colored powdered glass beads are from the Krobo People of Ghana, Africa. Powder glass beads are made by crushing glass into a fine powder and heating it so the particles fuse together. The glass is then poured into clay molds, with a cassava leaf stem used to make a hole. They are then baked in an oven, the glass fuses and the stem burns up. This technique has been used in Africa for centuries. Circa late 1900s; Origin: Ghana; Collected: Ghana.

BERBER “CLUB” PENDANT: The Berbers are a tribe of people who live in the Southern part of Morocco, in and around the high Atlas Mountains. A nomadic people, they are frequently found in small, make-shift tents plopped in the middle of the desert or in the mountains near an oasis or river. They are famous for their detailed metal work including enamel work. The “club” is also known as “clover or flower” and is a recurring theme used throughout some parts of Africa. This pendant is over 50 years old, has a large silver content and is handcrafted and hand-etched. It was made in Morocco and collected in Morocco.
