VASELINE GLASS BEADS: These wonderful yellow glass beads were made with a hand-held mold that left a conical perforation. They were then put on a stick and the facets ground on against a wheel, creating 18 facets. As a whole, beads were dubbed “Vaseline” beads by American collectors after the common green color. Vaseline beads were also made in other colors and are priced according to their color – green the most common and least expensive, then blue, next is yellow and then carnelian-colored. Vaseline Glass Beads were made in Bohemia (modern day Slovakia and the Czech Republic) during the period of 1830 until 1900. After that period, machinery was used for faceting glass beads and hand faceting was no longer used.
