AFGHANI OR NORTH AFRICAN PENDANT OR VEIL ADORNMENT: This beautiful triangular pendant is handcrafted from coin silver. The collector that it was purchased from was unsure about the origin of the pendant and the actual purpose it served. Due to traditional religious beliefs in the Middle Eastern and African regions, the majority of Muslim women were veiled. There are many references that describe veiled women as having silver adornments attached to their veils and headdresses. Nomadic tribal women often wore lots of silver jewelry – necklaces with amulets, bracelets, nose rings, earrings, and anklets. Because of the workmanship, metal content, and design, it is believed to have been crafted in the late 1800s. Origin: Unknown; Collected: Afghanistan.
