BAUXITE BEADS: Bauxite is a kind of aluminum ore and these beads were cut, carved, polished and drilled by hand in a small village called Akyem Abompe in Ghana, Africa and dated in the 20th Century. It is a unique center of bead production, as most of bauxite beads are produced there, and practically each family is maintaining themselves through the manufacture of beads. The patina of bauxite beads is earthy and warm and the most beautiful are said to be the ones which have been worn for a while and have absorbed natural human oil and sweat.
